NPR Talks about Stressed out Americans

In 2014, National Public Radio aired the results of a poll it conducted with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health. The poll asked Americans about the stress in their lives. It also gathered information about their perceptions of the stress they experienced as well as their coping strategies.

Almost 50% said that they experienced a major stressful event within the past year.

Most respondents said that health related issues were the primary cause of their stress. They cited family members or their own poor health, disabilities or chronic illness. While older adults said that health concerns were more stressful, younger adults said they were stressed by overwhelming responsibilities.

Do feel overwhelmed by stress? How do you handle your stress? Stress is personal and having a personal stress relief plan that works for you is important. Most people will tell you to just relax, but that will only make you more tense. Share your most effective (G-rated) ways to relieve your stress.
