What comes to mind when you think about the color turquoise? I think about one of the birthstones for the month of December. I am a December baby and the birthstones are blue zircon, blue topaz, tanzanite and turquoise. These stones are all blue or a shade of blue in color. Turquois is a blue – green stone that often has darker colored matrix patterns throughout. These patterns are associated with the value of the stone. The International Gem Society described the popular Spiderweb turquois as “veined with black matrix in a pattern that looks like crocheted lace.”
The description of the Spiderweb turquois gem reminds me of Rhonda Davis, AKA Turquoiz Blue. Rhonda loves the color turquois blue and adopted it as her moniker when she reclaimed her dream of being a designer. It has become so popular that most who know her, refer to her as Turquoiz Blue. She is also known for her crochet fashion designs.
I remember when we met while attending a weekend conference for women online entrepreneurs. The organizer called her Rhonda the entire weekend. At one point, she referred to her as Turquoiz Blue. When the organizer called her Turquoiz Blue, I immediately said “wait, you mean, you are Turquoiz Blue.” With a Sarah Vaughn like cool, she said “yes.” I had become familiar with the name having attended online trainings she also attended. I often wondered, “who is this lady with the cool name?”
Turquioz Blue is “cool.” She presents a calm, casual elegance that draws one’s attention. The same calm, casual elegance is evident in her fiber arts designs and digital media. It is not just a cool demeanor she demonstrates. She also demonstrates her skill, experience, and passion in how she approaches her work.
Design is Turquoiz Blue’s passion. She wanted to become a fashion designer when she was young girl. Her parents, however, encouraged her to pursue a more practical occupation. For this reason, she put her dream of becoming a fashion designer on hold. As with many women, life happened. For her, life had a few ups and downs and many turns before it led her back to her first love.
Turquoiz Blue earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in web design and a Masters’ Degree in digital media design. She currently works full-time as a web designer and maintains several side hustle businesses. She demonstrates her artistic abilities in her side businesses as a web/graphic designer and as a fashion designer. Her fashion specialty is designing crochet fashion, accessories, and home décor.
